INGREDIENTS
- For the Cocktail (Per Serving)
- ½ cup fresh Naturipe Blackberries, plus 4-5 extra for garnish
- 2 fresh mint sprigs (about 8-10 leaves)
- 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
- 1 tablespoon simple syrup (see Chef's Tip below)
- 2 oz white rum or vodka (substitute with club soda for mocktail)
- 3-4 oz sparkling water or club soda
- Crushed ice
- For the Simple Syrup (Optional, for easy batching)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup water
DIRECTIONS
- Muddle the Fruit: In a sturdy cocktail glass, combine the ½ cup of Naturipe Blackberries, the mint leaves, lime juice, and simple syrup. Gently muddle (crush) the ingredients 5-6 times to release the blackberry juice and mint oils. Do not over-muddle the mint, or it will become bitter.
- Add Alcohol: Pour in the 2 oz of rum or vodka (if using).
- Fill and Top: Fill the glass nearly to the top with crushed ice. Top with the sparkling water or club soda until the glass is full.
- Garnish: Stir gently to combine the layers. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig and 3-4 extra whole Naturipe Blackberries on top of the ice.
Chef’s Tip:
To make simple syrup: Combine equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan. Heat until sugar is dissolved, then cool completely before use.
For an even richer, deeper flavor, you can make a blackberry simple syrup by heating the simple syrup with 1/4 cup of blackberries, straining, and then cooling.
