Eat your colors for national nutrition month!

The best way to get your daily intake of vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients is to shop the rainbow! Berries are a staple in the fruits and veggies rainbow. They are enjoyed by every generation – seniors, adults and children. These nutrient packed bites are perfect for any time of day and can used in a variety of ways. But of course berries aren’t the only component on the fruits and veggies rainbow. The options are truly limitless and you can make your own by heading into your local grocery story produce section!

In celebration of National Nutrition Month (March) we have put together our own healthy fruits and veggies rainbow:

  • RED
    • Strawberries –the immunity booster! They are packed full of vitamin C, folate, fiber, potassium and antioxidants.
  • ORANGE
    • Carrots – the vision improver! This orange crunchy power food is packed full of vitamin A and is best known for improving vision. LINK
  • YELLOW
    • Squash – the healthy heart promoter! Yellow squash is a great source of vitamins and is high in manganese that helps the body process fat. LINK 
  • GREEN
    • Kale – the nutrition powerhouse! This new queen of greens is low in calories, high in fiber and has zero fats. LINK
  • BLUE
    • Blueberries – the memory enhancer! These true blues contain high amounts of antioxidants and champion of fighting many diseases.
  • INDIGO
    • Blackberries – the super food! They are filled with an “alphabet” of vitamins – Vitamin A, B, C, E, Calcium, fiber and iron.
  • VIOLET
    • Raspberries – the cholesterol reducer! Contains anti-cancer properties and a great source of fiber.
